Cardiff Council

Synopsis:

Create a short sharable animation that could be translated into six languages

What was the objective?

Did you know that vaccines traditionally contain gelatine or pork products as a stabilising agent? This makes them unsuitable for certain faith communities, vegetarians and vegans. Cardiff Council recognised this challenge and wanted to ensure accurate information was shared across diverse communities to increase awareness of pork-free vaccine alternatives.

The goal of this project was to create an engaging, inclusive animation that communicates:
  • Availability of pork-free versions of the flu, shingles, and MMR vaccines
  • Vaccines are free on the NHS in Wales and available via GPs
  • They’re the most effective way to protect yourself and loved ones from serious illness
  • These alternatives are just as safe and effective
  • It’s never too late to catch up on missed doses

Our role was to bring this message to life in a clear and culturally sensitive way through multi-language animated content, helping Cardiff Council reach audiences that may have previously felt excluded from public health messaging.

What were the key challenges?

Communicating a Complex Health Message Clearly

Medical content needs to be simple, accurate and easy to digest. Our animation had to balance the seriousness of the topic with an approachable tone, ensuring audiences from all backgrounds could understand the core message.

Language Inclusivity

To reach communities across Cardiff, the animation needed to be translated and localised into six different languages. This required careful coordination to maintain consistency across each version while being sensitive to cultural context and language nuance.

Visual Representation

It was essential to use character designs and settings that reflected Cardiff’s diversity without falling back on stereotypes. We developed a universal style that felt warm, welcoming, and inclusive for all viewers.

Versatility Across Platforms

The animation would be used across a range of digital channels and community presentations, so we needed to create flexible content that could be looped, clipped, and reused in different formats.

What was the outcome?

We delivered a suite of bilingual and multilingual animations tailored for Cardiff Council’s key communication platforms. Each version maintained the same pacing, tone, and visual consistency while being carefully localised for different audiences.
Our team developed a set of six loop HD animations, supported by a full asset library including transparent PNG characters, thumbnails, and adaptable artwork. We also provided short and long-form versions of each animation, ensuring Cardiff Council could use the content across social, websites, and presentations.

Throughout the process, we worked closely with the Council’s communications team to ensure every message was accurate, respectful, and in line with NHS guidance. The result was a suite of engaging, informative animations that broke down barriers and opened up essential health information to a wider audience.

The artwork was later adapted and transformed into bilingual posters across Cardiff.
